Not Dead Yet

Greetings all!

So yes, I got married and have been traveling across the country. It has been a lot of fun. The other day we were wandering around St. Louis and then yesterday we drove to Oklahoma City. We ended up getting in early enough that we could actually go into Bricktown. We rode along the canal and ended up eating at the Toby Keith restaurant. It was quite good. At some point I will get up some pictures and work on returning more emails, but today we have more driving to do.

HOORAY

So I'm getting married tomorrow. I got back to Virginia and all. Got to see the new Indy movie. Which was good, despite a few surprises. If you take it as more of a fun tribute to the other Indy movies it is better then trying to force it into being a serious adventure.
Did some errands and got thing together for the wedding. Today was the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. It was fun, people are getting into town and all. It is pretty exciting. Should have some fun pictures to put up eventually. I don't quite know when that will be, but most likely there will be some pictures from my travel across country with the wife and all. once again, I realize that there is not a whole lot for this post, but there will be more later.

Rain

So it is quite odd... you see there is a liquid (most likely water). But in an odd turn of events it is falling from the sky. Apparently there are parts of the world where this is called "rain".

Some Randomness

So by this time next week I'll be home. There is some stuffs that I still need to do. Like go to work, I have a few more days that I need to do that. Also pack. I think that people would be glad that I thought to pack stuff. And then I should straighten up about the house a bit. Prehaps put some stuffs away and all. Make it look at least halfway presentable for the wife.

Oh, you will all be pleased to know that it rained here. Kinda. Almost. You see, water fell from the sky. I'm not sure how much managed to hit the ground. It wasn't enough to make the ground look wet. But we could be getting more rain tomorrow and Friday. Which is interesting, because I am going camping Friday night. The one night that it is could rain would be the night I'll be camping. What a wonderful weather system we have in this state. Just in case you are wondering, I'm fairly sure we are still under 1 inch so far this year. Yup, you read that right, so far we haven't hit a whole inch yet.

Oh, with this threat of rain it has gotten cooler here. Today's high was in the 70's. Lower 70's too I believe. Not bad for pushing up near 90 and such.

Well, I think that is all for tonight. I wish all of you well and I will blog again later.

A Quiet Weekend

So there has been much that I've been running around doing. Trying to get stuff together for the wedding and such. It looks like plans have changed and so unfortunately we won't be going to Ireland as the original plan was. Also the airlines suck, cause I'm fighting with them to attempt to get some of that money back. Looking at things it was gonna be a bit more then we can afford currently and time would be an issue with driving back and all. So instead we will be taking our time and driving across the country.
The plan is to get to stay a night in West Virginia, a night in Kentucky, a couple nights outside St. Louis so that we can see that city, a night in OKC and then a couple nights in Albuquerque. Then back down to the fringes of nowhere to come home.
As far as this weekend goes, I'll be kicking back and relaxing. There is/will be much movie watching. It the theater is not dead tonight I will go to see Iron Man. (I blame the jackolopes, I think they unplugged the theater). And then I ended up renting a few movies to watch.

Oh, and it is getting warm here. Its starting to push toward the 90s. grumble grumble. Oh, and the desktop is starting to run slow again. I think that I shall have to play with it some more. Oh well, I suppose that is all for now, I will post again later.

Quick Note

In case you are wondering, I don't live in the middle of nowhere. I was at the middle of nowhere this weekend. I happen to live on the fringe of nowhere.

Beneath these Western Skies

So I don't know how many of you are familar with Chris LeDoux. But he did a few songs and all, and this one is a good one that has gotten even better since I actually live out here now.

The nashville friends think i'm strange to make my home out on the range

Think it's nothin but a God forsaken land
Why don't you bring your guitar and family, move on down to tennesse
Well, I just smile because they don't understand
But if they ever saw a sunrise on a mountain mornin?
Or watched those cotton candy clouds roll by
They'd know why I live beneath these western skies

I got peace of mind and elbow room I love the smell of sage in bloom
Catch a rainbow on my fishin' line
We got county fairs and rodeos, ain't a better place for my kids to grow
Just turn 'em loose in the western summer time
And if you ever held your woman on a summer's evening
While the prairie moon was blazin in her eyes
Then you'd know why I live beneath these western skies

You ain't lived until you've watched those northern lights
Set around the campfire and hear the coyotes call at night
Makes you feel alright

So guess i'll stay right where i'm at, wear my boots and my cowboy hat
But i'll come and see ya once in a while
I'll bring my guitar and sing my songs, sorry if I don't stay too long
I love Tennessee but ya know it's just not my style
I gotta be where I can see those Rocky Mountains
Ride my horse and watch an eagle fly
I gotta live my life and write my songs beneath these western skies

When I die you can bury me beneath these western skies, yippee

As far as the campout it was a good time. Was out with the OA and got to do work on making a fire break. Don't worry, I wasn't near any wild fires, but it was a step to be ready incase there where to be a fire in that part of the state. This is what happens when you live for months with the fire danger at extreme. I got to do some fun stuff like play with an industrial strength woodchipper. You could put whole trees in there and it just kind of chewed them up and spit out wood chips. Lots of wood chips. I also learned some things, like if you need to you can use gummies as ear plugs. Trust me, I did it. It was pretty wild.

First off, my tent. Being the first time I've taken it out it took a couple seconds of looking at things to determine how to set it up. The way the poles are connected to each other was a bit odd, but it works and you won't loose one of the poles that way. The fly clipped on, but I could use a few more stakes to pull the fly out all the way. The vestibule isn't quite big enough to store a pack, but it works for your shoes. All in all I think it is a good tent. In case you are wondering it is a Sierra Design Sirius 3.

Next up my sleeping bag. It is all sorts of toasty warm. It crushes down nicely and kept me plenty warm. Then again I wasn't near the limit of its ratings, so I'll have to put up more about it when I get there.

Finally my pack. It is really comfy. I found another pocket in it part way through the trip that I didn't know about. It is all recycled and such, so it is quite eco-friendly. I really like the water bottle holders. My last pack I couldn't reach them so well when I had the pack on. So all in all my gear is quite cool, and I approve of it.

Camping in NM

Alright, so after six months of being here, I am finally going on a camping trip. Hooray! I'll be headed out toward Kingston, NM. This weekend will be with the OA. And it is the first trip for my new tent and pack. It is also still one of the early uses of my sleeping bag. Hopefully there will be more camping in the future.

There is a place just south of town I'd like to do, a place on the way to Las Cruces, there is White Sands and another place up near Rudioso. And those are just the close places. Anyhow, I think I'm packed and it is about time for a lunch and then make up some dinner for tonight.
